PC of Paris

Added two new galleries to PC of Paris. That should be about the last of the girls in their underwear series, after that its mostly all nudes. May not update again till Friday or Monday, depending how long it takes to add the last part to the retro section.

Updates

The retro era is by far the hardest to sort since most of the photos were unmarked. Not enough documentation exist as far as photographers and models go to properly identify everything. While the sites retro section will become one of the largest organized collections of 40s and 50s nudes, the mass of it will still end up as various. The best that can be done is matching up as many unknown models as possible and roughly sorting the images by decades. The first various section is up with earlier pictures from the 30s, 40s, and early 50s.

Also added another numbered gallery with more Gloria Marlowe images.

Retro Collection

The problem with the later retro nudes is so few of them are marked in any way which makes them considerably harder to sort into anything other than a random collection. The only real option is to try and match up photographers and girls. Sounds easy, right?

Not when you're looking at a twenty plus thousand collection trying to match up a few hundred different faces. Finished most of the sorting now and should be back to the usual updates next week. Will continue to add to the retro collection from now on - having a few thousand scans that have never been released on the internet.

Added today a new color gallery and a gallery of numbered cards featuring Judy O'Day, Vicki Palmer, and Marian Mellet.

Break

Another brief break in posting this week. The plan has always been to eventually add a retro section to the site (images from the 50's and 60's), but that wasn't going to be till much later. Since the fashion section of the postcards has been mostly untouched, it's going on a brief hiatus so more time can be put towards the retro section. More to come next week. A new gallery for JR paris has been added.

JA and Sol

Another J. Agelou gallery added (if you haven't read the update on the site, you can expect a new one once a week. As the most prolific of all the French photographers, he produced thousands of photos) and one of my personal favorites, a new gallery for Sol.

PC of Paris

PC of Paris had been in business for at least five years before they starting considering publishing nude images. Initially they bought risque photos from photographers who normally dealt with nude pictures. After dozens of sets of softer erotica, PC started publishing nude images and their postcards (in my opinion) became more interesting. Put up the last of the risque images for PC today. All the galleries that follow will finally include nudes.

Also added an update section to the site. It gives an overview of which publishers will be the concentration and priority and a rough idea of how often which publishers will have galleries added.

Question

Someone wrote in asking about the identiy of a model on a postcard – wanting more information about that specific model. The short answer to that and any similar question is – if the model is French, there seems to be no information available (at least not in English. If someone knows a French source, please pass it on to me).

What I can tell you is many of the various publishers of the day tended to buy from the same photographers, usually whoever was popular at the time. You’ll find different sets of pictures with the same model appearing under three or four imprints through the entire history of the French postcards. An example is the model in question showing up here published by A. Noyer, Leo, and Sol.

JB

New gallery for JB added. Check back later for a new posting to answer a question sent in to me.
